Kampala- In the next three years, Uganda Cranes and residents of Rubaga division will have a training facility to call home.
Launched by Fifa president Gianni Infantino in February last year, the proposed Fufa training center at Kadiba, offered by Namirembe Cathedral, will host about 7000 fans upon completion.

“We thank you for the collaboration, this great facility will be a uniting factor between Fufa and the Church. We ask that federation becomes a real brother as we promote sports,” revealed chief guest, Rev Festo Kalungi, the Vicar of Namirembe Cathedral.
“We hope and pray that Fufa won’t chase us away from the training facility when we have sports activities and we don’t want to hear cases of it breaking down.

“The church brought sports in Uganda, we thank God that most of the church land has been stolen but this has put to good use.”
According to Fufa first vice president and head of projects Justus Mugisha, they have gone through all the construction preliminaries using Secure Point Company and handed the construction contract to Chreigns Construction Limited.
We have already secured funds from the Fifa Forward Program (FFP) for the $4.4m (Shs15.4bn) stadium.”

“We are running 14 projects at the moment including the beach soccer arena in Kitubulu and the 20000-seater Fufa Stadium at Lugazi,” Mugisha said.

Project engineer Ibrahim Kabugo says although Dream Africa Schools and Kadiba pool encroached on the land, they still have 4.5 acres to construct a modern football pitch, guest wing, gym, doping area, VIP pavilion, parking yard, health club, police stand, offices, restaurant and accommodation for players.

Before climbing the excavator to plough the foundation, Fufa president Moses Magogo revealed the federation was indebted to Infantino who keeps on asking about the progress of the project he launched.

“We are indebted to Infantino because he played football here when he visited. It is our objective that the children that have been using this project continue using it upon completion, the fourth division clubs here and the national team will also benefit,” Magogo remarked.
“I played soccer at this pitch and I can’t wait it to see it developed. It has produced national team players like Steven Bengo and Hakim Magumba and we hope for more talent to emerge.”
