Gazelles face Mozambique today

KAMPALA- Two wins must suffice for the Gazelles to have a chance of making out of the six team Group A and make it to the final eight of the AfroBasket Women 2015 tournament.

And at the half way point of their opener against Gabon yesterday, the team with arguably the worst preparation caused by financial restraints going into the tournament dared to dream as they trailed by four points at 29-25.

Instead it turned out to be false hope as Gabon pulled away 20-8 in the third quarter and inflict a heavy 70-39 defeat on the Ugandan team.

With the games coming thick and fast, the Timothy Odeke coached side must regroup quickly ahead of today’s game against the Mozambicans who were due to play hosts Cameroon in the late game yesterday.

With the team having struggled offensively, the arrival of Lisa Karungi will not only increase the squad number but help offset some of those problems with the added absence of namesake Sharon Karungi.

The Gazelles converted less than 20% of their field attempts as compared 42% for their opponents with Martha Soigi going for 1/8 shooting while Flavia Oketcho 2/14 culminated in a joint team high nine points.

The Mozambicans their opponents today, are the fourth highest ranked team behind Africa reigning champions Angola who they lost to in 2013 as well as Mali and Senegal.
