Desperate times call for desperate measures. In a desperate bid to wrap up this season’s Azam Uganda Premier League title, leaders KCCA are exploring all avenues to realise their dream.

Saddled with a damning goal scoring burden that has seen them net only once in 270 minutes, manager Mike Mutebi has sought for the tested services of retired Cranes legendary playmaker David Obua, to address the dilemma.
Obua, famously known as King David, who trained with the club briefly at the start of the season, returned on Monday with a particular aim to work with the club’s misfiring forwards.

He took attacking forwards; Caeser Okhuti, Paul Mucureezi, Derrick Nsibambi, Jackson Nunda and Muzamir Mutyaba through defence breakdown drills, occasionally sparing time to give briefs to each separately.
“We welcomed him in the team at this crucial moment to share his experience with these lads most of whom have not won a trophy in their lifetime,” Mutebi told Daily Monitor.

Mutebi says he is perturbed by his strikers’ profligacy in front of goal and hastily adds that before they face bitter rivals SC Villa on Friday, he will have polished his blunt attacking line. “We created several chances in the two losses to The Saints (2-1) and Simba (1-0) plus the 0-0 draw with Vipers but my strikers failed to make them count. If we want to win the remaining three games (against Villa, Express and Sadolin), we must start converting those chances into goals,” Mutebi revealed.

KCCA, gunning for a 11th league title, have scored 36 goals in 27 matches, two short of fourth-placed Soana’s 38-goal tally and one adrift of sixth-placed URA.

Okhuti has netted thrice since joining in January whereas Nsibambi, Mucureezi, Nelson Ssenkatuuka and Herman Wasswa keep blowing hot and cold. Obua, formerly with Express, Hearts and Kaizer Chiefs declined to speak about his new role but it is understood he is finalising with his coaching badges.

Vipers’ hard-earned win over Express on Tuesday at Buikwe brought them with in three points of KCCA with a game in hand.
