  • On course. Led by skipper Edward Satro, last year Gomba conquered their win through Nicholas Kabonge’s strike from a close range in the 58th minute. This proved to be beyond the capacity of Singo’s goalkeeper Derrick Wele. Gomba emerged as the 2017 Masaza Cup champion after defeating Singo 1-0.

KAMPALA. 2015 will highly be remembered by Gomba team. Not that they embraced fortunes in Masaza Cup, but because they failed to go past group stages.

Their performance was below the belt throughout the tournament.
However, winning Masaza Cup in 2017 must be the main factor that motivated Gomba to defeat Buwekula 1-0 last Saturday at Kabulasoke playground in Gomba District.
Kabaka Ronald Mutebi II who graced the function smiled too, upon noticing the goal.
The last time Gomba started with victory was in 2014 under coach Shafik Bisaso when they won the trophy.

Led by coach Ibrahim Kirya, Gomba turned what had started as a boring and a down-at-heel performance in first-half into a classy and entertaining game in second-half. Just like he did last year when he left many Singo fans heart-broken with his beautifully executed scorcher at 45,202 seater Mandela National Stadium Namboole in finals, Nicholas Kabonge, 21, reverted the same by leaving Coach Denis Kiyimba’s team Buwekula angrily heart-broken. They had less or no chances to escape. The goal came in the 47 minute, but this was not his only attempt.

Kabonge had cemented a solid attacking force with Umar Luswabi and the moment that still stands in many fan’s eyes, is when the latter lowly crossed the ball on the left of Luswabi before the former’s effort kissed the cross bar.
“They were a solid and compact team,” Buwekula’s head coach Kiyimba said after the game.
