Gulu get quarterfinal bye in UFL

KAMPALA. Gulu had never been to the semifinals of the Nile Special University Football League that is in its sixth year of existence.
They were handed an easy passage to that stage on Thursday after the appeals committee upheld the Disciplinary Committee decision to suspend Makerere.

The two universities were due to play the first leg of their quarterfinal today.
“Gulu will go straight to the semifinals following the decision,” a source who is not authorized to speak to the press told the Daily Monitor of the decision expected to be announced later on Friday.

Makerere were suspended for the remainder of this season and the whole of next season after their fans attacked and provoked Busitema University fans prior to the kick-off of their group game earlier in the competition.

Meanwhile, Kyambogo and Nkumba Universities on Thursday played out a 1-all draw in the first leg of their quarterfinal played at Kyambogo.
