Jinja SSS, Kirinya give me reason to invest more in sports - Nyago

Kampala- You should have been at Masaka Recreation Ground on Saturday to see Jinja SSS head teacher Dinah Nyango soil her white T-Shirt in animated jubilations with her boys on winning this year’s Copa Coca-Cola trophy.
Nyago was in Masaka as a member of the Copa organizing committee in her capacity as the chairperson of the Association of Secondary Schools in Uganda (ASCU) and expecting her school to storm the semis at best.
Little did she know that the holy grail awaited her school.
“I can’t express how overjoyed I’m now after we achieved our dream. God is indeed great. The only gift I can give these boys is by continuing to support them,” she remarked.
Jinja SSS’ success over St Mary’s Kitende comes in the same year their girls’ team won the national cricket league trophy and their Uganda Premier League team Kirinya-Jinja SSS maintained their top flight status.
“Now I have reason to continue investing in spots because I see the dividends. It was costly preparing for the Copa tourney but the nationwide appeal and recognition we got after the tourney can’t be measured in monetary terms,” she stressed.
On Sunday afternoon, Jinja town came to a standstill as hundreds of residents gathered at the River Nile Bridge to welcome their triumphant heroes.
“We are not letting any of our star players leave because this is the biggest school in Uganda. We want to defend the title at our back yard next year,” Nyago added. Only Nyago and Express chairperson Florence Nakiwala Kiyingi are ladies on the 16-team UPL male dominated board.
“We succeeded at school level mainly because of the coordination with our league team. We are going to keep that process so that we bounce back stronger next year,” she revealed.
