What you need to know:

Soccer. The Kasasiro Boys now boast of a two-point cushion with two games in hand after leaving it late against Express on Friday.

KAMPALA/MASAKA.

At this stage, some goals and some wins can feel worth more than three points.

It certainly felt that way at Wankulukuku on Friday as one moment of decisiveness from Paul Mucureezi helped hand KCCA a much needed away 1-0 win over crossroad rivals Express.
The goal scored five minutes from time, helped the defending champions open up a two-point lead over SC Villa whose late collapse against Police culminated into a 2-all draw in Masaka.
“It gives us confidence going forward as it helped us stretch the gap on our immediate rivals,” stated KCCA coach Mike Mutebi.
His team moved to 51 points with five games left, two less than Villa who have played 27.

KCCA had looked jaded for long periods particularly league leading striker Geoffrey Sserunkuma, whose only sniff on goal came late in the first half with his shot blocked by Express goalkeeper Emmanuel Opio.

With few clear cut chances to speak of, Mucureezi pounced after playing touch and go with Derrick Nsibambi before thumping the ball past Opio.

“A moment of genius, one moment of decisiveness won us the game,” added Mutebi whose team had gone four games without a win in all competitions. The result meanwhile left Express on 40 points after 25 games.

“We dosed off for a second and were punished. But our target was always to finish in the top four which we can still achieve,” explained Express coach Mathias Lule.

Villa vanquished
In Masaka, Villa led through Emmanuel Okwi’s 10th goal of the season and an Umar Kasumba strike before Rahmat Senfuka and Anthony Bongole replied for Police.

SC Villa coach Wasswa Bbosa was quick to write off his team title chances thereafter.

“The fact that KCCA won their game against Express is enough to say it all that we are out of the title race,” said Bbosa, who escaped from being lynched by angry SC Villa fans after the game.

“My players never showed enough hunger on the day. How can one explain our failure to defend the two goals we had scored early on.”
