KAMPALA- Kampala University (KU) reached the semifinals of the Nile Special University Football League for the first time in three years after overcoming a spirited Busitema at Villa Park last evening.

Their progression was, however, not as anticipated with the Vincent “Titi” Tumusiime coached side losing the return leg 1-0 to qualify on away goals rule following a 2-1 win in Busitema three weeks back.

“We are ready for any side. The performance today was better than in the first leg although it is not reflected in the result,” Titi stated after the game.

His team enjoyed plenty of possession in a goalless first half only to go down immediately after restart when Jacob Muga scored after bursting through on goal.

They will be joined by either Nkumba or Gulu University who clash this afternoon in Nkumba with the tie evenly poised following a goalless draw in the first leg.

“We missed our most important player Joshua Kakaza and you could see that when he came on he caused panic to our opponents,” Busitema coach said of the second half introduction of Kakaza.

The midfielder had been a doubt for the game after suffering a thigh injury in the first leg.

KU, also the 2013 champions now join Makerere and last year’s finalists Uganda Martyrs University into the last four.

They will be joined by either Nkumba or Gulu University who clash this afternoon in Nkumba with the tie evenly poised following a goalless draw in the first leg.

“Gulu and Nkumba have always been almost equal and any team can take it. Our strategy is to ensure we score against them so that we have an away goal which I suspect might come in handy,” Gulu coach Julius Komakech said.

“I think it’s going to be a great game. Gulu are a good team. But we shall be playing at home so I am confident about the boys. At home they have character, confidence and stability and all teams that have played here know how difficult it is to pick a point from Nkumba,” Nkumba coach, Patrick Sebuliba said.
