KAMPALA. Kampala University (KU) and Nkumba did not attract the huge crowds of the previous two editions, but as promised, the pair delivered what could arguably now be the best final of the Nile Special University Football League.
Both playing an enterprising brand of football, it is KU who will be remembered as winners of the fifth edition after a come-from behind 3-2 victory of the Nile Special sponsored tourney at Namboole on Saturday.

“People laugh when I often mention the tactical and technical parts of the game but like you saw today, that is what we needed to win,” a delighted Vincent “Titi” Tumusiime said afterwards.
Nkumba twice led, going ahead after 18 minutes when Martin Seruwagi converted a penalty following a handball in the penalty box. First, Nicholas Kabonge ensured the sides were level going into the half time break after curling home a 30th minute freekick.

If the football displayed in the second half showed a growing maturity of the competition, Nkumba unknowingly countered that.
Exciting left winger Fred Gwoto’s inviting cross was smartly guided in by Emmanuel Wasswa two minutes after restart for Nkumba to take a 2-1 lead. The pair then toyed with their opponents with Wasswa’s lob going wide when one on one with KU’s goalkeeper.
Gwoto then went on a mazy run, beating the entire KU defense before his goal-bound shot deflected off the offside Wasswa.
