What you need to know:

  • Kefa Kisala, who was relieved of his job at URA joins colleagues; Shafiq Bisaso, Deo Sserwadda (SC Villa), Alex Gitta, Wasswa Bbosa (Express), Alex Isabirye (Jinja SSS), Sam Timbe (Police), Paddy Kintu (Lweza) and Abdallah Mubiru (Vipers) who have been sacked this season.

KAMPALA. “I feel like I have just left the wilderness. I haven’t enjoyed any moment during my tenure as URA coach. My bosses always dictated what I should do and that’s why the club is going down,” axed URA coach Kefa Kisala revealed to Daily Monitor moments after the club confirmed he was no longer needed in Lugazi on yesterday.
He says the tax collectors backtracked on their promise this season for the club to rebuild with young players and started demanding ‘lofty’ ambitions of winning the league.
“We agreed I introduce young players like Shafiq Kagimu, Rafian Alionzi and Robert Mukongotya into the team after releasing the old guard but the officials put them on pressure which made the fail to perform,” he adds.

Kisala, who replaced his boss Moses Basena in December 2015, says even his successor will fail if the club management don’t change their ‘unprofessional’ style.
“Can you imagine an official – without technical knowledge - coming on the bench to order you on who to substitute? I regret why I left Bul to join them.”
So wretched has been the four-time league champions under Kisala this season that they have won just four matches in 18 outings and sit a dismal seventh on the Uganda Premier League table.
“This has been the most difficult decision we have had to make last night to keep the interests of the club keep going forward, Kisala has brought discipline and a sense of working together in the team which the board appreciates,” said newly appointed URA chairman James Kizza.

Kirya returns to save ship
According to URA CEO Edward Kulubya, they are close to sealing a deal with former assistant coach Ibrahim Kirya to see that he saves them from further slip.
“The league results in the current campaign have placed the club league status under risk and the board feels that a change of leadership, while admittedly painful, is necessary in the club’s greatest interest. Ibrahim Kirya is lined to replace him (Kisala),” he added.
Ironically, URA, that have not won a league game this year, face Kirya’s current side in the league this afternoon at Wankulukuku.
