Kisala brings with him hope to Express

KAMPALA. As a celebrated and loved former player at the club, Express new coach Kefa Kiasala returns to Wankulukuku with an air of promise.
The Red Eagles fans know it. He knows it. “The club needed someone who knows our weaknesses and strengths, someone who knows our identity as a square pass team, and one who can bring hope,” Kisala told Daily Monitor.
The former Bul coach signed a two-year contract with Express on Monday before tendering in his resignation at Bul, whom he accused of having already breached his contract “long time ago” when they fell short on some of his match allowances.
Where he is headed, however, is hardly a guarantee for assured timely payments.
But Kisala reckons that for as long as the executive fulfil their part of the bargain, Express, who survived relegation by the skin of their hardly existent teeth, should do just fine.
“The coach and his staff are the production managers, the players are the human resource, and the football we finally produce is the product.
“For this all to happen the club management must play with us and they have assured me of that help. I know our problems so it shouldn’t be a problem.”
And boy has his work cut out. Express finished last season in an embarrassing 13th place with 31 points from 30 games, but given the dire situation they were in, it was enough to keep them up and celebrate.
But now is time to get to the proverbial drawing board, or to simply buy one.
Kisala’s immediate task is to assemble a competitive side good enough to avoid another relegation dogfight as they look to restore the club’s almost faded glory.
“I have been in a situation like this before. So I know we shall be fine.”
Kisala, who first coached at Express in 2006, won league and cup accolades with the Red Eagles as a player.
He has previously coached at Masaka Local Council, URA and Bul for two stints.
Kisala was also assistant coach to former Uganda Cranes boss Micho Sredejovic for a short stint before Moses Basena took over.
