Lubega banking on Austrian exposure for Cranes goals

Edirisa Lubega

KAMPALA. Seven months in the Austrian second league (Erste Liga ) with Floridsdorfer Athletics Sports Club have helped former Proline energetic forward Edirisa Lubega upgrade from the rough edged striker he was to a neat finisher.
Lubega is still far from the level of his model Fernando Torres (Spain and Atletico Madrid forward) but has improved greatly on his runs and positioning.
“I thank the steady foundation coach Mujib Kasule gave me at Proline because his training techniques helped me settle in fast in Europe.
“The coaches at the club have adjusted me from attacking from the wings into a central striker which has helped me score three goals in six matches plus three assists this season,” Lubega told Daily Monitor yesterday.
His club, that was whitewashed 5-1 by Wattens in their last outing, is still struggling in the 10th position on the table with seven points from 13 games but Lubega believes the fortunes will changes with hard work.
Against Madagascar at Lugogo on Wednesday in the 2-1 loss for Cranes, Lubega played as a lone striker getting assistance from Kizito Luwagga,Muzamir Mutyaba , and Joseph Ochaya and he managed to set up the opening goal in the 45 minutes he played.
“I didn’t get enough space at Lugogo to express myself and the artificial turf gave me problems but if I get a chance at Namboole on Saturday I will show what I have learned in Europe.”
He will vie for the striking slots with Emma Okwi, Derrick Nsibambi and Geoffrey Sserunkuma but the budding forward who netted 21 Fufa Big League (FBL) goals to aid Proline’s promotion to the top tier last year, is convinced he has something to offer.
“I have been with the Cranes even before I went to Europe and I know what it means to play for the national team. I’m ready to search for the goals if given a chance as a lead striker,” he added.
