Luwagga, Isinde back as Basena deviates from Micho script

KAMPALA. With a dismal record of one win in 18 attempts and the last of which came as far back as 1965, Cranes have endured bad times against North African giants Egypt.
In a bid to avert the trend, interim Cranes coach Moses Basena reckons he will need all the country’s best players available when the two teams meet in a World Cup Qualifier double-header starting next week at Namboole.
The tactician consequently summoned 27 players as the Cranes seek to build on an impressive start that sees them second with four points from their opening two games.
Among the surprise inclusions were midfielder Kizito Luwagga and defender Isaac Isinde, two players who have not played for the Cranes since January at Afcon.
Luwagga, who had a below par performance in Gabon, vowed never to play for the Cranes citing differences with previous coach Micho Sredojevic.
They came to the fore at the tournament after he was substituted in the final group game against Mali. Isinde meanwhile was not picked again by Micho after his mistake led to the goal against Ghana in the opening match.
“If there is any Ugandan who meets the requirement for the national team he will be considered.
“I am a Christian and our Lord Jesus at one time said he did not come for those who are righteous but will always forgive those who are repentant.”
The player accepts that he wronged and apologized to all of us. If there is something that we need from him we shall use him. What he will contribute is more important,” Basena stated.
His stance appears different from previous Cranes coach Micho who he worked under from his time at SC Villa and with the Cranes
The Serbian fell out with various players in his four year reign as Cranes coach including former captain Andrew Mwesigwa, Henry Kalungi and Hamis Kiiza.
Midfielder Tony Mawejje and Savio Kabugo were among the notable absentees with the former reportedly having traveled to Albania to seal a move to FK Tirana while the latter is in South Africa for trials.
