Masaka.

An SC Villa fan would not be crucified if they waltzed about with the swagger of “I’m back!”
And back with a bang they are after sidestepping URA 3-0 at Masaka Recreation Grounds to pick up their first victory of the second round and return to the league summit last evening.
Returning from an injury lay off, Martin Kizza was the tormentor in chief, sinking two daggers through URA’s heart before Yubu Bogere completed the thrashing for a resounding 3-0 victory. The three points were even sweeter for coach Wasswa Bbosa’s men as they came on an evening Azam Uganda Premier League (AUPL) champions KCCA dropped a further two points following their goalless draw with Masavu in Entebbe.
Villa now open a one-point lead on Vipers, who face Maroons tomorrow.
The Jogoos top on 36 points, Vipers on 35 while KCCA stay third on 33. What will comfort manager Mike Mutebi’s KCCA is that they have one game in hand on Vipers and Villa.
“It was important to get a positive result after the loss against KCCA,” said Villa coach Bbosa.
“Also getting three goals was important because we have struggled for goals all season.” URA coach Paul Nkata strangely started without a striker, opting to have Herman Wasswa on the bench in favour of midfielders Shafiq Kagimu and Deboss Kalama.
“Even Spain and Brazil once played without a striker and won,” Nkata argued, “We are building a system of play that will torment opponents in the future.” URA remain eighth on 23 points.
Kizza was the star of the show in Masaka, breaking the deadlock with a fine individual goal on the hour mark.
The winger, cutting in from the left, beat his marker before turning and dribbling past two others to shoot past a poorly positioned Mathias Muwanga.
He then resisted a substitution before scoring a penalty nine minutes from time after Muwanga shoved Ambrose Kirya as he tried to recover following a poor clearance.
Substitute Yubu Bogere then got his fourth goal of the campaign with an opportunistic strike on 87 minutes by tapping in from another substitute George Senkaaba’s cross-shot.
