Manchester United sign Argentina's Sergio Romero

Manchester United have officially announced the signing of Argentina shot stopper Sergio Romero.

Romero who was a free agent after he was released by Sampdoria penned a three-year contract at the club on Monday morning with an option to extend for a further year.

"The towering goalkeeper has now joined his new team-mates in San Jose, California," according to the club's website.

Speaking to after the signing, the argentine said he was happy to join the best club in the world.

“I'm absolutely delighted to join Manchester united. To play for the biggest club in the world is a dream," Romero said.

Romero, 28, played under Louis van Gaal at AZ Alkmaar between 2007 and 2009. He made his senior debut in the Argentine Premier Division with Racing Club in 2007. He went on to play for AZ Alkmaar and more recently Sampdoria. Sergio has represented his country on many occasions and was an integral part of Argentina’s 2014 World Cup squad in Brazil, who were defeated in the final by Germany.

On his part, Louis Van Gaal hailed the new signing as a talented goal keeper whom he cant wait to work with once again.

"Sergio is a very talented goalkeeper. He was a young keeper during my time at AZ Alkmaar and I am delighted he is joining Manchester United. He had a fantastic World Cup last summer in Brazil, although that is something I have put to the back of my mind! He will be a great addition to the team and I am looking forward to working with him once again,” Van Gaal said.
