Maroons’ Wani looks to man of the match award for more motivation

KAMPALA- Ivan Wani is a player whose star continues to rise. In May, the versatile attacking midfielder was unlocking defences in Masaka on the way to guiding Jinja SS to a first ever Copa schools tournament.

He was consequently awarded the MVP accolade at the high school tournament in addition to making the team of the tournament.

Six months later, Wani is beginning to put up similar exploits at an even higher level. He was on Tuesday awarded the ForteBet Man of the Match award including a Shs100,000 cash prize for his exploits as Maroons salvaged a 1-1 draw with UPDF.

The youngster is now hopeful the award can help catapult him to even greater heights as well as helping Maroons achieve their season objectives.

“It’s a big achievement for me. It makes me work even harder to show that I can really do it. I’m very pleased and so happy,” he said of the award.

The result moved Maroons to eighth on the table for at least 24-hours with 18 points from 14 games as they seek to avoid an immediate return to the Big League.

“At home it’s very bad and we are fighting to be somewhere at least get to 20 points in the first round,” Wani further stated.

Solomon Walusimbi got the goal for Maroons after 78 minutes to cancel out Robert Nakyenalire’s 32nd minute penalty.

Maroons will now wind up their games at home to Bul on Friday.
