Masaka prepared to host Copa Coca-Cola

KAMPALA.

Masaka SSS will provide the stage for the secondary schools’ biggest annual football showpiece as the Copa Coca-Cola schools tourney returns to Masaka in May.

After the Soroti edition last year that was won by record holders Kibuli SSS, the organisers felt it imperative to grant Masaka SSS the hosting rights – because they fulfilled all the necessary requirements.

“Masaka SSS did bid and win. They have the facilities and fit in the sponsors’ (Coca-Cola) marketing demands,” the chairperson of the national organizing committee, Raphael Bwiire, revealed. Masaka SSS deputy headmaster Hajji Ahmed Mukiibi confirmed the school’s commitment to see that the 24th edition is a success.

“We have pitches at our school, Kitovu, Masaka Technical, Hill Road, Nyendo, Masaka Recreation and in New Kumbo. Our main duty now is renovate them plus working on the condition of the dormitories,” Mukiibi told Daily Monitor during the launch at the Namanve Coca-Cola plant.

Coca-Cola Brand manager Rodney Nzioka said they have improved their sponsorship of the tourney by supporting over 2000 schools that intend to participate with equipment.

“We pledge to continue nurturing young talent through this tournament that has unearthed national team players like Geoffrey Walusimbi, Khalid Aucho, Muhammad Shaban, Farouk Miya and Allan Okello among others,” Nzioka said.

“We are going to visit even schools that are not participating and give playing kits.”

This year’s edition that starts on May 6th will have Karamoja and Sebei regions included as independent zones to be represented at the national finals where 60 schools shall qualify.
