The Nile Special University Football League gets underway on Thursday with defending champions Makerere University Business School (Mubs) hosting Busitema at Nakawa in the opening game of the 2015 season.

The tournament, going into its fourth edition, will again feature 12 universities. The teams have been drawn into two groups. They will play a group stage followed by a knockout phase contested by the top four teams from each group.

Mubs are favourites to retain the trophy with their coach Charles Ayekoh saying they are well prepared.
“As you know, no team in the University Football League has ever defend the title,” Ayiekoh said during the tournament launch last week. “But I think this Mubs team has what it takes as most of our players are the same ones who lifted the trophy last season.”

Mubs have been drawn in Group B together with rivals Kampala International University (KIU), Gulu University, Busitema University, Ndejje University and Uganda Christian University (UCU).

Nkumba University are the other team capable of giving Mubs headache in the title chase. Nkumba have been drawn in Group A alongside Kyambogo University, Mbarara University of Science & Technology (MUST), former champions Makerere University and Kampala University and, Uganda Martyrs University (UMU).
