KAMPALA. KCCA’s League and Cup double repeat dream this season gained shape on Friday when they were drawn against Soana in the Uganda Cup last 16 matches.

Club manager Mike Mutebi has overseen a convincing start to the season ably competing on three fronts; Caf champions League, Uganda Premier League and Uganda Cup. Although cautious, Mutebi is somehow excited about the prospect of playing a Soana side he has already beaten home and away this season.

“Soana has always given us a bit of headache but we believe we are going to eliminate them even if we are away,” Mutebi told Sunday Monitor at Stanbic Bank offices Nakasero where the draws were conducted.

With Vipers taking on Kira United and SC Villa playing Ndejje university, Mutebi acknowledges this year’s competition is stiffer than the last edition they won by beating Paidha Black Angels in the finals.

“We have the capacity to retain the trophy because we planned for ways to negotiate through these fixtures.” Vipers, winners in 2016, face a potential banana skin when they travel to Kira Town Council Grounds to play Mark Twinamasiko’s Kira United.

Seeking promotion
Kira United, are fighting to join the top flight league next season and sit second in the Fufa Big League Rwenzori Group. They have since lost key players Deboss Kalama and Moses Sseruyidde to URA but Twinamasiko is confident they can spring a surprise.

“Apart from a few players like Erisa Ssekisambu and Milton Karisa, the rest of Vipers players are average,” Twinmasiko said. “At the moment the club’s main target is gaining promotion and ejecting Vipers will come as bonus to us.”
