Mutyaba fancies his chances for Airtel-Fufa award

KAMPALA.

There is no doubt for KCCA enterprising midfielder Muzamir Mutyaba on who will win the Airtel-Fufa male player of the year gong on December 1 at Munyonyo – it is him or nobody else.
Mutyaba has recovered from injury having missed the club’s thrilling 3-1 win over Vipers on Tuesday and now aims to take the prize car home, notwithstanding the fact that former teammate Geoffrey Sserunkuma is favourite.
“I believe I will win because of what I achieved last season. I have also mobilized for votes well,” said Mutyaba, who was named in the Uganda Premier League team of the season at the league awards in July.
Mutyaba is not fretting over the stiff challenge posed by Sserunkuma or Vipers midfielder Tadeo Lwanga.
“It is my time to win this prize because I worked hard. I am happy that my club has started doing well again and I believe my return will add the much needed boost,” he added.
Luckily for Mutyaba, Lwanga failed to capitalize on his absence in Tuesday’s game to woo voters when he put in an indifferent show in Vipers’ hurting loss at the StarTimes Stadium.
Mutyaba was pivotal in KCCA’s double winning season but will face direct competition from former teammate Sserunkuma (now at Zambian side Buildcon) who struck 21 league goals that earned him KCCA and UPL best player awards and prize car plus a slot on the Caf Africa based players 30-man shortlist.
