Executive disbanded after wrangles between two groups.
National Council of Sports (NCS) has dissolved the Uganda Rowing Federation (URF) executive following wrangles between two factions.
For several months, URF has been torn between two groups with one paying allegiance to general secretary Hamza Kahwa and the other led by president Sam Ssengendo.
Their disagreement emanates from where to establish the association’s main rowing centre. Ssengendo’s group is opposed to shifting from Miami Beach in Luzira to Garuga Country Resort.
As a result, Ssengendo reportedly rallied his group and suspended Kahwa, who wants the association to move to Garuga.
Kahwa also reportedly pushed for Ssengendo’s suspension.
NCS have now revealed that after a meeting with Uganda Olympic Committee and other stakeholders, they will hold elections for a new executive in one month. “We are going to verify all rowing delegates in the country before overseeing the elections,” NCS general secretary Jasper Aligawesa said.
