KAMPALA. Juliet Nalukenge scored twice in the second half as Kawempe Muslim overcame home side Kampala Queens at Villa Park on Sunday in the Fufa Women Cup.

The second round encounter was the pick of the day that also saw Uganda Christian University (UCU) Lady Cardinals beat Gafford Ladies 0-2 in Kanyanya courtesy of Hasifah Nassuna and Moureen Kinavudori’s goals.

However, the Villa Park encounter was special in a way that Kampala Queens coach Faridah Bulega, who doubles as national team Crested Cranes coach, was coming up against the striking partnership of Nalukenge and Asia Nakibuuka.

This is a partnership Bulega depended on when Uganda fell to Kenya in the Africa Women Cup of Nations (AWCON) qualifiers early this month and they were sure to enhance their reputations.

“It was a tense game since KQ had the home advantage but we fought hard,” Kawempe midfielder Tracy Jones Akiror, told Daily Monitor.

“We are definitely happy because last season, we lost in our first Cup game which was away against Muteesa.

So coming into this one, there were a few doubts but we kept together and persevered through especially after they got the equalizer,” Akiror added.
