As the sport continues to attract bigger crowds, so does its capacity to attract sponsors as witnessed yesterday when Pepsi extended its league partnership with the Uganda Beach Soccer Association (UBSA).
The sponsorship will see the soft drink company extend by two years a shs300 million its contract to facilitate the league which kicks off on Sunday at Lido beach. “Beach soccer is about fun, entertainment and youthfulness which are captured in our new thematic campaign,” Pepsi brand manager Timothy Luzinda said at the launch yesterday. Unlike the previous sponsorship entirely limited to league sponsorship, the new contract could see the company support the national team, the Sand Cranes ahead of the CAF Beach soccer finals in Seychelles next April.
“We are extremely happy that Pepsi have decided to renew their sponsorship agreement as we share similar ambition in uplifting the game of beach soccer,” UBSA president Deo Mutabazi noted.
The league kicks off with a mouth-watering clash between champions Kira Young and last season’s losing finalists Nkumba who will not be short on motivation after being handed last season’s prize money of Shs2 million and Shs1.5 million respectively.
Meanwhile, newly named Dalumba Richmond which narrowly survived relegation last season open their season with a game against Braza Braza.
