Kampala. KCCA manager Mike Mutebi often states that his team’s performances in warm up games is usually an indicator of how they perform in competitive ones.
Accordingly, if yesterday’s Pilsner Super 8 semi final game against Nyamityobora is the yardstick for Saturday’s Caf Champions League game against Botswana’s Township Rollers then fans could be in for a treat.

KCCA stormed the final of the preseason with a 4-0 thrashing of league debutants Nyamitrobora at the Startimes Stadium yesterday.
Striker Patrick Kaddu helped him with a brace to further increase Mutebi’s confidence while Allan Okello toe-poked in the third and substitute Lawrence Bukenya completed the rout with a good team goal.

“Like we said we have given him responsibility. In the pecking order he was third but now he is first and he has taken up the responsibility very well,” Mutebi said of Kaddu.
He has grown in importance at the club following the departure of Derrick Nsibambi while the club have reportedly also agreed to cash in on Muhammad Shaban leaving him as the only available centre forward.

“It is pleasing. There is no difference with Shaban, he could even be better technically in using the ball. We believe he is a goal scorer. His combination with Okello will help a lot. He may do the donkey work and Okello used the speed passing,” Mutebi added.

Good chance
Moses Ndawula spurned the first real chance of the game for Nyamityobora failing to beat Tom Ikara from close range.
Kaddu was then gifted the first goal by goalkeeper Franco Oringa who was robbed of the ball for the striker roll the ball into an empty net.
He then coolly slotted in the second after good work from Julius Poloto and Jackson Nunda before Okello got the third in the second half and Bukenya side footing home the fourth.

KCCA now switch their attention to Saturday’s Township Rollers game before playing the final the following week against either SC Villa or Onduparaka whose Thursday meeting in Arua was postponed.

ABOUT SEASON OPENER

Last season, domestic football governing body Fufa announced plans to revive that preseason hype with the introduction of the Super 8 tournament. The tournament was
this week boosted by a shs90m package from Uganda Breweries under their Pilsner brand. Late communication from organisers has however meant three clubs Vipers, Police
and Bright Stars opting against featuring for varying reasons.
