Soccer. At Nakivubo, Gerald Bagoole struck a 53rd minute penalty to hand army side Simba a 1-0 away victory over Entebbe.

KAMPALA. Mathew Odong scored the only goal of the tightly contested game at Wankulukuku to hand Morley Byekawaso’s SC Victoria University (SCVU), who finished second last season all three points against the league debutantes Lweza FC.
The striker was given time and space in the 36th minute to control Savio Kabugo’s lofted ball before firing on the turn with his left foot and leave his coach Byekwaso all smiles.
“I could not have asked for more considering that our pre-season had been hampered by the uncertainty of the league kick-off,” explained the tactician.
Despite surrendering most of the possession to their opponents, SCVU were rarely threatened by Lweza who had Francis Sembatya and former SCVU ace Mike Sserumaga kept under wraps by Murushid Jjuko, Kabugo and Martin Mpuga.
Despite the loss, Lweza coach Vialli Bainomugisha remained optimistic his side would improve as the season progressed.
“We have new players coming in and very young team who need a run of games to get into their stride but it was an overall good performance today,” he stated.
