KAMPALA.

Allan Okello is in every bit a Mike Mutebi kind of player. One who is never afraid to express himself regardless of the stage he plays at as evidenced by his debut hattrick against Onduparaka close to a year ago

The budding youngster on Thursday demonstrated yet another trait shouldering responsibility in one of the biggest games of the Azam Uganda Premier league to help KCCA overcome archrivals Villa at the Startimes Stadium at Lugogo.

Having come on a half-time substitute for the returning Jackson Nunda, Okello appeared KCCA’s likeliest match winner by providing a goal threat from distance as Villa shutout his teammates.

The latter in turn created the better goal scoring opportunities and threatened to open up a seven point lead.

Yet after a slow start, the youngster showed intent first letting fly with a fizzing 25 yard drive that was tipped over by Villa goalkeeper Samson Kirya on 77 minutes.

He was then afforded similar space six minutes later with the crossbar running to Villa’s rescue with Kirya beaten.

He would however not be denied four minutes from time when referee Alex Muhabi called for a foul.

The decision appeared harsh and attracted jeers from KCCA fans who thought he could have allowed play to continue.

Instead they were celebrating seconds later when the attacker’s low effort beat Kirya to deliver victory in their first match of the second round.

The goal which came five minutes from time came at a similar period in which SC Villa got their winner for a 2-1 first round victory in Masaka.

More importantly however it moved KCCA who also have a game in hand to within a point of leaders Villa.

The latter though will feel hard done by the result after being foiled by some good shot-stopping from Charles Lukwago.

The KCCA goalkeeper kept out efforts from Allan Kymbadde after he was set up by substitute Simon Sserunkuma as well as George Ssenkaaba.
