Onduparaka sneak through after beating Mbarara FC
KAMPALA.
Onduparaka overcame their own emotions to beat stubborn hosts Mbarara FC 2-1 and advance to the round of 16 in the Uganda Cup yesterday.
The Arua-based side saved face with late goals from Dickens Okwi and Ceaser Okhuti at a charged Kakyeka Stadium. “We never give up until the 90th minute,” said jubilant right-back Rashid Gasper at full time.
Following an entirely dour first-half, Onduparaka coach Livingstone Mbabazi introduced Gadhafi Anguzu and Okhuti to inject pace.
But a Richard Makumbi-tutored Mbarara surprisingly went ahead when Micheal Muhangi headed past Geoffrey Lowo from a corner at the hour mark.
Four minutes later, Onduparaka skipper Muhammad Shaban won a penalty but missed it when opposite custodian Denis Otim saved.
