KAMPALA. The only blemish in Pak Stallions march to victory in Season Four of the Kampala Boys Sports Club (KBSC) – Aziz Damani Night Cricket Tournament was a five- wicket group phase loss to Keshwala B on August 1.
Their mistake was failure to post a formidable total as justified by Keshwala B who chased down their target of 122 with an over to spare.
From that loss, they kept their heads above the water with back-to-back wins including an easy 7-wicket triumph over 2015 champions Aziz Damani in the semifinals.
In the final, their star opening batsman Roger Mukasa, who notched the Player of the Series accolade with 273 runs, pounded Afridi XI’s bowling arsenal all over the well-lit Lugogo Oval for 57 runs to help the Stallions set 172 for 7 wickets in 20 overs. His knock was supplemented by Ali Malik’s 38 and captain Shahid Malik’s boundary-littered 17-ball 33 not out.
Despite staging a late fight in the run chase, Afridi XI were soon bundled out for 132 runs with Amir Cheema (45) and Faizal Manji (26) being the only men to score more than 20 runs.
“We won because we played as one family,” said captain Malik, soon after picking the glittering trophy and Shs10m prize.
“Our team was well balanced and we want to win next year as well. We only need a couple of more batsmen from the locals and Pakistanis and we will be even stronger for the opposition.”
Jinja Indians’ Nandkishor Patel, a former Cricket Cranes international, scooped the Best Batsman’s gong with 216 runs whereas Suleiman Sharif, another former Ugandan international, was the Best Bowler with a haul of 17 wickets.
