Police fall in Express trap as Bul slaughter Paidha

KAMPALA. Express recorded their first three points of the season with a 3-1 win away win over an out of sorts Police at the StarTimes ground yesterday.

Having lost 3-1 to Mbarara and drawn their opening game against URA, there had been growing fears that the six-time champions could again be fighting against relegation this season.

But against a careless Police side, those fears were put to rest at least temporarily as they ground out a much needed victory.
Striker Tony Odur eased early nerves punishing loose marking in the Police box to thump home the opening goal from a tight angle after a pass over the top from right back Julius Ntambi.

They then doubled the lead just after the half hour mark when Odur turned provider laying the ball off for the onrushing Ibrahim Kayiwa to slot home after a quick break.

Unpaid wages
Police whose players have had to put up with endless unfulfilled promises over their wages since last season, improved slightly after the break with the early pressure leading to Arthur Kiggundu diverting the ball past his goalkeeper Mathias Muwanga.

But they were again punished a minute before fulltime when Michael Birungi rounded the goalkeeper after substitute Hassan Kalega was caught in possession as Police tried to play their way out from the back.
“Express is a big team and we feel that it shouldn’t be where it was last season. We deserved to win because we scored more goals,” Express coach Kefa Kisala said afterwards.

The result lifted Express to eighth on the table while Police are bottom after three straight losses.
At Kavumba, youngster Joel Madondo’s brace took him top of the goal scorers’ standings and Kirinya-Jinja in fifth position following a 2-1 away win against Tooro United.
