Soccer. Goalkeeper Matthias Kigonya netted in a 1-0 victory over Bul at Lugogo to send Bright Stars second on the log.

Kampala. Police continue to be the force in the early stages of the Uganda Premier League (UPL), their latest of arrests coming at Kavumba Ground, Wakiso last evening.
The Cops let SC Villa take an 18th minute lead through in-form Karim Ndugwa before coach Angelo Lonyesi’s men restored law and order at their home thanks to two second half strikes from Godfrey Katerega and Umar Kasumba.
Police have now assumed table leadership after three games with seven points, relegating the day’s victims to third, a point less – both teams having come into this unbeaten.
In disturbing news for the Villa faithful, however, coach Steven Bogere is said to have been suspended by the club boss Ben Misagga after the match. The two are said to have been involved in an altercation.
But as Villa wallowed in their woes, rivals KCC were recording their first victory in two games. And emphatic it was as they effortlessly saw off newcomers Rwenshama 3-0 at Ssaza Ground in Mityana. Having laboured in their 1-1 opener with Police last week, the reigning champions were given a thrust on 19 minutes when Michael Birungi struck his first of the season off a William Wadri flick-on. Derrick Nsibambi added the second on 51 minutes after beating his man on the left before cutting inside to beat veteran goalkeeper Hannington Kalyesubula from about 20 yards.
Birungi completed his brace on 64 minutes with a wonderfully struck volley from a cross down the left to move George Nsimbe’s side to fifth on four points. But it was at Lugogo the eye-catching moment was provided. And it was from no other than a goalkeeper. No. It was not a save.
The hosts, who have now won two in a row, earned a free-kick just outside the 18-yard box. All 10 Bright Stars players stepped aside and goalkeeper Matthias Kigonya raced from his pitch abode.
Kigonya is remembered to have scored six goals for his Beach Soccer League side Stormers in an 8-1 demolition of Richmond Strikers last season. He did not disappoint here; picking his spot before expertly curling the ball over the human wall to beat Nsubuga Zakaliya to his right for a 75th minute lead.
The goal ensured 1-0 victory over Bul and moved Bright Stars to second on the log on seven points.
