  • Victory will take KCCA back to the top of the Azam Uganda Premier League table after the holders squandered an

Kampala.

Despite facing a Police side that has not won a league match in four outings, KCCA manager Mike Mutebi is under no illusion when it comes to the importance of this afternoon’s clash at Namboole.

In the midst of mutual respect between the Mutebi and his erstwhile apprentice Abdullah Mubiru comes a league duel that both would cherish to win; the former to continue with the league title chase and the latter to thwart growing relegation fears.

“My strategy is to win and if it fails I will settle for a draw. We have it in our minds that we are preparing to face the reigning champions,” said Mubiru, who beat KCCA 1-0 while still Vipers coach in the first round.

Mubiru is not happy that Fufa barred players; Martin Mpuuga, Paul Willa, Brian Ochwo, Hakim Senkumba and Yasin Mugume, on loan from KCCA from facing their parent club yet in the agreement the two clubs found no qualms about it.

“I have lined up Tainul Kimera, Osman Mutumba and Ruben Kimera to fill the void. We are also ready to deal with the Geoffrey Sserunkuma (top scorer) threat,” he told Daily Monitor yesterday.

Mutebi, who will be without defender Timothy Awany (hamstring) and striker Robert Ssentongo (malaria) urged his second placed team to respond swiftly to the Soana 1-1 draw on Tuesday because the title race is still wide open.

“Police is a very organized team with a good coach. We have to go there and perform because we have a competent team,” he said.

Lurking in the third position on the Uganda Premier League table is free scoring Vipers who visit struggling Jinja SSS at Kakindu.
