The last two Uganda Premier League (UPL) matches against Vipers and Kirinya-Jinja SSS have shown that reigning champions KCCA are not infallible after they threw away their healthy table lead to cast the title race wide open.
Mike Mitebi’s team have a glorious chance to stretch their lead when they come up against a Police side that are wallowing in the red zone. They square off at Lugogo this afternoon.
KCCA, tied on 19 points with second-placed Vipers, have beaten the Cops on five occasions in the last six league meetings but remain cautious of Police’s unpredictability – especially under experienced Sam Timbe. “Our problem has been injuries in defence but we are likely to have our key defenders Timothy Awany and Martin Mpuuga back for the Police game,” said KCCA FC assistant manager Morley Byekwaso.
“That, plus the fact that we have not lost at home this season, gives us belief that we will walk away with three points.”
Bul-lish Anyau stands in Villa’s path
The mother of all battles will be at Kakindu stadium where former SC Villa technical director Frank ‘Video’ Anyau leads Bul against the Jogoos.
“It will be an entertaining end to end game because we all want to win. We are in the relegation zone and need to win at all costs,” Anyau, whose squad has a clean bill of health, told Daily Monitor.
After a promising start to his Villa reign, coach Shafiq Bisasso wants to make it two out of two wins.
“We admit that Bul is a resilient side especially at home but we have all our star players available to get us maximum points,” he said.
The 16-time league champions are fourth on the table and intend to leapfrog third placed Soana if the latter succumb to Lweza in the other league match at Wankulukuku this afternoon.
