Sixth placed Vipers will hope the sweeping reshuffle in the coaching department on Tuesday yield instant results when they host an in-form Soana side today at St Mary’s stadium in Kitende.
Now without Richard Wasswa, Stephen Kigundu and Harunah Kyobe, head coach Jorge Da Costa goes into today’s Uganda Premier League game with maximum satisfaction that harmony has returned in the hitherto disjointed dressing room.
In what can be described as a regrettable season, the two-time league winners find themselves tied on 36 points from 23 matches with today’s opponents. Vipers, 11 points adrift of leaders KCCA, have a glorious chance to temporarily go fourth with a win this afternoon before Onduparaka host Sadolin on Saturday.
Soana coach Alex Isabirye, who has won the last three matches, reckons his players can add to Vipers’ woes if they follow his tactical script.
“The game will test my player’s character in away games. I have been victorious in almost all the matches I have played against Vipers as a coach and that gives me belief that we can do it,” Isabirye told Daily Monitor yesterday.
The former URA, SCVU and Bul coach is however mindful of the deft quality of many Vipers’ players and the immediate impact of the managerial changes.
“It is going to be an exciting game for the fans because the new coaching set will want to prove their ability,” added Isabirye who has lost only once in eight games against Vipers.
At Bombo Barracks, Moses Basena will be trying to save The Saints from the relegation scare against eighth placed Proline.
