SC Villa captain Jonathan Mugabi has acknowledged players received their allowances shortly before Saturday’s 1-0 first leg away win over Sudanese side Al Khartoum in the Caf Confederations Cup.
“We received our allowances on our way to Sudan and as such we had no excuse going into the game,” the defender told the Daily Monitor yesterday.
One of the players who requested no to be named had expressed worry shortly after the team’s send off on Thursday last week about failure to be paid allowances by the club. “It is a sad situation but as players we’ll do our role. Hopefully we can impress a few suitors,” he said.
The club have meanwhile now turned their focus to the second leg on Saturday week with club president Ben Misagga revealing they now need Shs70m for the showdown. Villa must avoid defeat to advance.
