KAMPALA.

SC Victoria University yesterday travelled to Kavumba and handcuffed Police in their own backyard to ease pressure on their under-fire coach Morley Byekwaso.

Carrying two straight Uganda Premier League (UPL) second round defeats for identification, the visitors struck twice inside 10 minutes through Muzamir Mutyana and Dan Nsubuga (penalty) before the former completed his brace for a 3-1 victory. Ronald Nyanzi scored Police’s consolation.

The victory –only their fourth in 18 matches – was the first since legislator Muhammad Nsereko bought majority shares in the club in January.

It moved them three places up and out of the relation zone to 11th with just 18 points.
Nsereko had alluded to taking action on the coaching staff had fortunes not changed.

“We shall get better because our injury situation is improving,” said a relieved Byekwaso. Goal-scorer Mutyaba, Fahad Toko and Muwadda Mawejje all returned from injury. “Once they reach full fitness we shall be fine.”

His Police counterpart Angelo Lonyesi, whose side’s defeat saw them stay in seventh place with 26 points, was livid with the officiating.

“Players lose motivation when they see certain officials,” he said, “Today’s referee (Donney Robert) gave away a dubious penalty against Simba on Friday. They brought him back today.”

At Kakindu Stadium in Jinja, Tito Okello and Edgar Luzige’s second half strikes in the 2-0 victory over Entebbe moved them two places up to fourth on 30 points.

Robert Kimuli and Jimmy Lule scored for Rwenshama and Bright Stars respectively at Nakivubo as they settled for one-all draw.
