The striker, who scored for his DRC side Vita en route to the Caf Champions League final recently, was not expected to start in this particular 2015 Nations Cup qualifier but his poaching instinct could have been relied on at some point in the game.

LOME-Cranes striker Yunus Ssentamu could sit on the substitutes’ bench when Uganda face Togo at Stade de Kégué on Wednesday evening but the AS Vita forward will certainly not partake of proceedings on the pitch.

Ssentamu sat out Tuesday evening’s training after attracting a bout of malaria the same day in the morning. Team physio Ronald Kisolo gave him anti malaria injections at the team hotel in Lome on Tuesday and treatment will continue on match day.

Ssentamu’s absence leaves Cranes coach Micho Sredojevic, who is already without suspended defender and skipper Andy Mwesigwa, with three strikers in stand-in captain Geoffrey Massa, Gor Mahia’s Daniel Sserunkuma and KCC’s Brian Umony.

Ghana, who face Guinea in Tamale, currently top standings with five points after three games, one better than Uganda and Guinea. Togo have three.
