What you need to know:

Soccer. Sserunkuma’s goals fired KCCA to a League and Cup double, the club’s first in history

Kampala. It seems no one can stop veteran striker Geoffrey Sserunkuma from winning the Azam Uganda Premier League Most Valuable Player (MVP) award this evening at Imperial Royale Hotel.

After a goal-laden campaign with KCCA that saw him net 21 times in the league, Sserunkuma, already the club MVP, is considered the outright favourite to win the Subaru Forester prize, ahead of Emma Okwi (Villa) and Shaban Muhammad (Onduparaka).

He has rolled the right hand over his head in celebration all through whenever he has been on target and Sserunkuma says that is a sign of being ‘blessed’.

The competition from Okwi (10 goals in 11 matches) and Shaban (13 goals from 26 matches) is one that will require his ‘God’ to be awake because a few surprises have sprung up at awards nights recently.
Whereas Shaban’s exploits for Onduparaka were mostly done in the first round of the season, Okwi almost drove a disjointed, disoriented Villa to league glory in the six months he spent at the club, and he seems the closest challenger to Sserunkuma’s bid.

Lest we forget, Sserunkuma is already assured of stepping to the podium to collect his top scorer’s award and prize - and is certain of making the team of the season.
