Kampala. As a coach, Deo Sserwadda is a 2006 topflight league and 2005 Uganda Cup winner from his time at URA.
But at his unveiling as SC Villa’s head coach at Jevine Hotel in Ndeeba yesterday, there appeared doubts about his choice despite him boasting just over 10 years’ coaching experience.
“Many of you don’t like change but sometimes it is good to welcome it,” Peter Ssenkungu the club’s Vice President, speaking in vernacular, stated in some of his opening remarks.
“This is a decision the executive reached after advice from technical people but also because Fufa is telling us about the required qualifications which unfortunately Ibrahim Kirya did not match,” he explained further.

Kirya, who won the 2015 Uganda Cup with the club in 2015 is a Caf License C holder and has been working in tandem with Frank Anyau whose contract was also not renewed.
Consequently the reigns were handed to Sserwadda for the next two years with a backroom staff consisting of Shafic Bisaso as his assistant and Christopher Lobbo as goalkeeping coach.
Sserwadda is a Caf License B holder and has been handling fourth division side Police Mobile (Police’s junior team) and Kyambogo University.

“There is nothing easy in this world but I will do all I can to restore the club’s glory. I have returned home,” he stated. “You can see that they will be productive because of their history,” club president Ben Misagga said of the coaches who were chosen from a pool of 36 applicants.
In the past you have criticized us for not hiring former players. Now we have one. He should however desist from club politics which was one of his predecessors’ undoing,” warned Misagga.
Sserwadda who played as left back and featured greatly during SC Villa’s dominant period of 1998-2004 becomes the club’s sixth coach in three years since Misagga took charge.
