KAMPALA- Thunderbirds is the most celebrated team in Ugandan women’s rugby by a country mile.
Their 15-11 loss to Entebbe Ladies at the Central Market Stadium in Entebbe felt like a humiliation for a side that has gone through several seasons unbeaten.

The defending league champions attached their dismal show to absence of senior players and not training at all yet their opponents had been in serious training.

Samiya Ayikoru, who led the Thunderbirds stated that; “Entebbe Ladies are a weak side, had we had training and had some of our senior players not abandoned the game, we would have won.”

She called upon team members to start training so as to avoid such humiliation in consequent games.
Regina Lunyoro, the Entebbe Ladies’ team manager, praised her team for registering the league opening victory.

“I am so excited that we won this league opener and we are looking forward to yet another victory against Mbale Eagles next Saturday,” Lunyoro said.

Meanwhile the Black Pearls, formerly Walukuba Titans, registered a walk over against Mbale Eagles as the latter didn’t turn up for the game at Abel Dhaira Stadium Jinja.
