Titans wrap up fairy-tale season with victory in low-scoring final

KAMPALA. It was not a dream final that neutrals had asked for. If early season form is anything to go by, the Lakhani Motors Titans were supposed to square off with Roger Mukasa’s Brookside Spartans.

But a change in fortunes at the business end of the five-week long showpiece saw a party popper in ABC Samurais. They emerged from out of the blue, edging both Titans and Jackson Ogwang’s Blink Logistics Knights to the final.
But in the final of the Generational Next Youth Challenge League at Lugogo Oval on Saturday evening, their coach Michael Ndiko was helpless as his troops crumbled to 33 for 6 after their captain Isaac Abdallah Lubega had won the toss and opted to bat first. It took P.7 vacist Perry Wazombe’s unbeaten knock of 20 and Richard Agamire’s 23 to help the Samurais reach triple figures of 102 after Reagan Atuhaire (4/13) had done the damage with the ball.

There were a few jitters, as expected, when the chase got underway for the Alvin Bagaya’s Titans but man-of-the-match Siraje Nsubuga hit out any doubt with a calculative unbeaten knock of 39 of 46 to ensure his side toast to victory with 10.2 overs to spare and three wickets in hand.
