Uganda cranes player ratings

Uganda Cranes went into yesterday’s game needing just a point to return to the Africa Cup of Nations finals after a 37-year absence but lost 2-0 to Guinea in Casablanca, Morocco.

Dennis Onyango 6
The Mamelodi Sundowns custodian was struck by the first and unlucky on the second goal. He had enough saves and did the sweeper role superbly when Mwesigwa was sent off.
Isaac Isinde 5
At right-back, he got several headaches from Sylla Idrissa’s quick feet. He tried to contain pressure in the final half-an-hour. Isinde however offered nothing going forward.
Godfrey Walusimbi 3
Got early jitters at left-back from Ibrahima Conte, settled in briefly, but later ran out of ideas.
Savio Kabugo 5.5
You will have little to blame Kabugo for especially after Mwesigwa had seen red from Senegalese referee Malang Diedhiou.
Andy Mwesigwa 1
The captain lost control of his ship way early, committed so many unnecessary fouls before his send-off tore down Micho’s script. Worst ever performance in a Cranes jersey. He may not play for Uganda again.
Tonny Mawejje 4.5
With an untidy backline behind him, the midfield maestro was always outmuscled by Keita Naby and company.
Geoffrey Kizito 4
He just had a bad day in office. Baba imposes his presence on games but his passes were mostly square and the Gor Mahia player barely found midfield partner Mawejje.
Farouq Miya 2
Again, Miya was lost in the middle of the pack as he failed to feed Massa and Majwega early on. Eventually went off first for Sserunkuma. His under-hit corners were a let-down in the minutes he was kept on the pitch.
Luwagga Kizito 4
The Portugal-based winger had blips. Often, he was physically beaten by Guinean backs Sylla Isiagga and Camara Fode. His array of tricks were subdued.
Brian Majwega 4
His pace was neutralised early on and consequently couldn’t offer much going forward. For most of the afternoon his deliveries left a lot to be desired.
Geoffrey Massa 4
His form in the entire campaign ended on the night he had a brace in the first leg against Guinea in Namboole. He didn’t give goalkeeper Yattara Naby a stern test.
Daniel Sserunkuma 4 (Substitute)
When Mwesigwa’s actions wrecked the plan, dread-locked Sserunkuma found it hard to link up from the middle. Still, he was an improvement on Miya.
Robert Ssentongo 3 (Substitute)
His combo with Massa and Sserunkuma just didn’t work from the 65th minute onwards. Admittedly he came on at a time when Uganda was playing a man less against a technically superior side.
Mike Sserumaga 3 (Substitute)
His potent left foot didn’t execute the attacking role in the decisive moments. Likewise, he came with Cranes a man down.
Coach Micho Sredojevic 3
He was entirely helpless at the touchline as Guinea made it to their 11th Afcon showpiece. Still his team selection raised eyebrow
