Uganda Cranes nominated for best team award

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has nominated Uganda's national team, Cranes for the 2016 team of the year Award.

Coach Milutin 'Micho' Sredojevic's team was nominated on Sunday because they qualified for the 2017 Total Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) and are also in the group stage of the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

The Ugandan team also played at the 2016 Africa Nations Championships (CHAN) in Rwanda among some of their achievements this year.

The others teams nominated include; DR Congo who won the 2016 CHAN Cup, Nigeria U-23, Senegal and Guinea Bissau.

Uganda's first choice goalkeeper Denis Onyango and coach Sredojevic have also been nominated by CAF for the CAF Player of the Year based in Africa and the coach of the year Awards respectively.

"As the Uganda FA President I am proud to see these gentlemen I have worked with closely nominated at this level and hopefully could go and win it," Moses Magogo, the Uganda FA President told URN.

The other categories nominated include the best player in from outside Africa, best women's player, most promising talent, youth player of the year, referee of the year, club of the year coach and women's national team of the year. The winners will be decided by votes from the CAF Technical & Development, Media Committees and a panel of 20 experts (Journalists, TV consultants).

The winners will be announced at the Glo-CAF Awards Gala scheduled for January 5, 2017 in Abuja, Nigeria.
