Uganda to get Shs5b FIFA grant

The Federation of International Football Associations (FIFA) will remit a total of Shs5,440,000,000 in grants to Uganda in 2017.

During the presentation of the budget estimate before it was passed by the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) Assembly at the Nimrod Hotel in Luweero last Saturday, the finance Director Decolas Kiiza said the Fifa grant will be received in three quarters.

FUFA will receive monies from FIFA under the development programme, operations and the performance incentive. The members passed a budget of Shs14.2 billion. In the breakdown the Federation hopes to receive Shs950,000, 000 from the official Uganda Cranes sponsors Airtel, Shs450,000,000 from Nile Breweries Limited and Shs115,500,000 from Bidco Uganda.

Besides the FIFA grant and the money from sponsors, the Federation also hopes to receive Shs720,800,000 as grant from the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

Speaking at the Assembly, Fufa President Moses Magogo thanked all the delegates for playing an imortant role in working as a team to ensure that Uganda broke the 39-year jinx by qualifying for the 2017 Total Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon).

"This qualification is not just the President of the federation, but players and everyone including the government which has played a big role," he explained.

Interestingly a document signed by 71 delegates from the 88 was also presented showing their support for Magogo to continue as the FA President come the elections next year in October. Magogo was elected new FA President in 2013.

William Blick, President of the Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC) who represented the State Minister for Luwero Triangle, Denis Gaalabuzi praised Fufa for the good work they are doing.

The National Council of Sports (NCS) assistant general secretary, David Katende and Norah Nassimbwa, a sports advisor in State House also attended the Assembly.
