What you need to know:

  • After replacing axed Abdallah Mubiru on interim basis Sunday, Richard Wasswa is set to take charge of his first league game against The Saints at Bombo.
  • Wasswa, now assisted by Steven Kigundu, conducted his first training session yesterday with a view of starting off with a win and move the two-time league champions from fifth back into the top three.

Kampala. Without mincing words, Villa head coach Shafiq Bisaso reveals that their imposing performance against Vipers on Saturday was spurred by their two-week trip to Vietnam.
Bisaso says that second placed Villa, four points adrift of Uganda Premier League leaders KCCA (31 points from 13 matches), has significantly changed after the friendly games they had in Asia and vows to ride on this to cut the gap before the first round ends.

Villa have beaten the tax collectors only twice in the last six attempts and can bridge the gap at the top to one point until KCCA plays Sadolin tomorrow. “We were motivated to beat Vipers while we were still jetlagged. URA is another big game for us but we are ready to show them that we want to win the title,” Byekwaso told Daily Monitor ahead of the league clash with Kefa Kisala’s wallowing URA at Lugazi today.
He added: “We don’t underrate URA by looking at their current worrying position (sixth with 18 points from 13 matches) because we know every team plays its best football against us.”

Lwesibawa returns
Bisaso welcomes back speedy right winger Godfrey Lwesibawa but he is still without skipper Mike Sserumaga.
URA assistant coach James Odoch is convinced that URA, who were held to a goalless draw by Bright Stars last Friday, can put up a fight against the 16-time league kings.
“We have worked on the players’ concentration and precision ahead of the villa contest. We need to start winning to stay in title contention,” Odoch revealed.
URA is without Matthias Muwanga, Robert Mukongotya and Erukana Nkugwa.
