Veteran rally driver Wycliff Bukenya is hoping he can exorcise the demons and win his first National Rally Championship (NRC) event this weekend.

The 57-year-old has had an illustrious rallying career of 27 years and the Freedom City Challenge Rally this weekend offers him a chance to end the jinx.

“I have been unlucky in the past,” said Bukenya. “During the 2011 Mbarara Rally, I was leading until I got a mechanical fault towards the end,” he said.

Bukenya has tasted mild success like when he won the Drivers’ Outing event in Kalangala last December. But his sights are focussed on winning an NRC event.

The veteran, who will cruise a Mitsubishi Evo9, says it is too early to predict this year’s champion.
