KAMPALA. SC Villa and KCCA two of the three teams still vying for this year’s league title showed they regard the Stanbic Uganda Cup just as high following dominant performances in their respective quarterfinal match-ups.

Yesterday, Villa put in a dominant if not wasteful display on the way to a 3-0 win over Kampala Junior Team (KJT) at Lugogo.

The game was not expected to be as straight forward with the third division side having accounted for URA and Bul in the previous round.

“It was not easy because they train from where we train from but we came with the right mindset,” said Villa captain Bernard Muwanga after the game.
Villa tore the KJT script with an early goal headed in by George Senkaaba.

It was quickly followed by a penalty from Martin Kizza before Ambrose Kirya made it three and Villa should have had more had Ssenkaaba been more clinical.

“We need to work more with our strikers because we should have scored more goals,” Wasswa Bbosa the Villa coach added.

On Saturday, KCCA managed a 1-0 win over promotion-chasing Big League side Kitara in a game they were also rarely troubled.

Striker Muhammad Shaban scored a 10th minute header off a Dennis Okot right wing cross to deflate the hosts in a game played in Hoima.

The goal was his third in the competition and 10th domestically in what is a stop-start debut season thus far because of injuries.

“Somebody has popped up today but we are not very confident on who is going to score for us. We are waiting for goals to come from somewhere so it is important to continue creating chances,” Mutebi stated.
“We wanted and are prepared to compete on four fronts. The only problem are the injuries but we are prepared for that. The defense is performing well but our problem is the forwards,” Mutebi added.
