Villa demystify Onduparaka strength to stretch AUPL lead

With a run of two wins in nine away games, SC Villa were in serious threat of wasting a good opportunity of stretching their lead in the Azam Uganda Premier League (AUPL) when they faced Onduparaka on Saturday evening.
Instead, they delivered a huge statement of intent, becoming the first topflight team to win at the Betway Greenlight ground in 25 attempts as they built a four point lead at the top.
Winger Godfrey Lwesibawa was the hero with his seventh minute freekick turning out to be the winner in a 1-0 win to succeed where 18 other clubs had previously failed.
“Its a huge morale boost to get a win here because not many teams are going to go to Arua and get three points,” SC VIlla head coach Wasswa Bbosa noted.
“Yes, we scored through a set piece which should actually have been a penalty but the referee opted for the freekick.

So that tells you what it means to get a win in Arua. I don’t see any team playing with a similar kind of determination. I was pleased because we played according to instructions. I told players not to concede fouls near the box,” he added.
The result after 20 games, moved Villa to 40 points, four ahead of KCCA and Vipers who have played 18 and 19 games respectively.
The loss for Onduparaka was meanwhile their seventh and they stay sixth on the log with 29 points from 20 games and will pile pressure on coach Livingstone Mbabazi.
“At the moment things are not going our way but In Shaa Allah (God willing) we shall work hard and bounce back as soon possible,” the returning captain Rashid Toha said of their second performance that had yielded one win in five games. Onduparaka have now failed to score in five of their 10 games at home scoring more than twice on two occasions.
