KAMPALA . With nothing to redeem from this campaign, Vipers management has set next season as the moment to wrestle back the league title they last won in 2015.
Head coach Miguel Da Costa has been granted freedom to use the remaining six league games to mold a title winning outfit that will restore Vipers’ pride.
“This is the man I trust to give us lasting joy. Costa will make Vipers great in Uganda and Africa. We are going to give him the trust and support he needs to achieve that next season,” club director Lawrence Mulindwa revealed on Saturday as he presented the Portuguese to his guests at Kitende stadium.
Already Mulindwa has helped the 36-year old former Porto youth coach by weeding out ‘distracting’ elements from his technical staff.
“I like his win - win - win philosophy and I want him to win the league next season. I have given him time to look at all the players he wants to use and I believe he brings a lot to our team,” Mulindwa added.
The two-time league champions have changed managers thrice this season (Abdallah Mubiru, Richard Wasswa and Costa) which partly explains their sixth appalling position on the Uganda league table.
After beating Soana 2-0 on Friday at St Mary’s stadium, Costa said he was happy to win his ‘first game’ since joining in March.
“There are many changes coming to the club soon,” revealed Costa whose side sits nine points behind leaders KCCA.
