KAMPALA- Police stayed top of the Azam Uganda Premier League after coming from a goal down to claim a hard-fought 2-1 victory over URA in a battle of the Mandela National Stadium-based sides.
Henry Kisekka gave URA a 17th minute lead when he headed in a Brian Majwega cross after goalkeeper Douglas Kisembo failed to handle a routine cross.

But rejuvenated Police who flirted with relegation last season showed character with Kaweesa pouncing four minutes before the break.

The striker tapped home at the far post after URA goalkeeper Nafian Alionzi parried a fierce Juma Balinya strike into his path resulting from lovely give and go move on the right.

The Abdallah Mubiru coached side were not at their flowing best on the day but still managed a second when Kaweesa run onto a Shakur Makeera incisive through ball to dink the ball past Alionzi.

The goal was the striker’s sixth of the season and made him the leading scorer as the league thus far in addition to earning him the Fortebet man-of-the match award.

The win moved Police to 20 points from 11 matches, a point and a game more than KCCA and SC Villa.

Defeat for URA meanwhile left them ninth and seven points off the pace after a fourth loss for under-fire manager Ibrahim Kirya.

KCCA are second after Muhammad Shaban scored the season’s first hattrick in a 4-0 away drubbing of Soana.

SC Villa, docked two points and goals earlier in the season kept pace through a George Senkaaba strike to claim maximum points against high-flying Bright Stars.

Vipers were the only side in the top five who failed to win after being held to a 1-all draw by Asaph Mwebaze’s newly promoted youthful outfit.

Struggling Express meanwhile picked a morale boosting 2-1 away victory over Proline with Daniel Sserunkuma and a late Mubarak Nsubuga goal cancelling out Fahad Bayo's opener.
