So members feel that the current state of the sport is worrying because the executive isn’t doing things in the right way.

Clubs under the Uganda Lawn Tennis Association (ULTA) have petitioned National Council of Sports (NCS) over ‘failure by their body to honour the constitution.’

Arthur Ssegawa, a former player, led 15 clubs that endorsed the petition, which cited that the current executive under Cedric Babu was operating illegally.

“Their term of office expired in February and they were supposed to hold elections in December which wasn’t done,” explained the Lugogo center court sports manager.

“They are illegally in office and we are seeking guidance from NCS.”
It’s however alleged that the Annual General Meeting (AGM) that was supposed to be conducted in February was reportedly postponed to April 20 without the consent of the members.

So members feel that the current state of the sport is worrying because the executive isn’t doing things in the right way. NCS general secretary Jasper Aligawesa, who received the petition, promised to look into it before the next elections.

“We will look at the petition and address it as soon as possible,” explained Aligawesa.

“We are going to call the current executive and tell them of issue but we shall solve the issue quickly.”

Meanwile, Ssegawa, also declared his intentions to become the new ULTA chairman, when the local tennis governing body goes to polls on April 20.

“Am standing as a candidate for chairman ULTA because I want to help the future of tennis in Uganda to be brighter and better,” he said.
“I feel strongly that all tennis clubs and players should be heard and have an effective automobile for raising their concerns in relation to tennis issues.”

Ssegawa, will be vying to unseat current president Cedric Babu, who will also contest for his second term in office.
